Customer Review: It was the best camera I ever owned.

I bought this camera in 2000, and it broke in 2006 after many thousands of shots in almost a dozen countries. It produced accurate color, great (for the era) resolution and clarity, and had a decent zoom. The night shots were good, and the panoramas and films as well. Low-light sensitivity was wonderful, and I never felt that a rainy day would hamper my abilty to take a photo that accurately reflected the world as I captured it. The capacity with the microdrive was revolutionary and a great boon as well, not having to change disks or memory sticks every time you filled up 64 mb with photos.
And then it broke. I thought, big deal, surely cameras have come a long way since then! I hobbled by with a borrowed ultracompact Casio for a year, and finally settled on a Nikon Coolpix P80. It produces sharper images at greater range, and has tons of features I never dreamt of with my Casio - yet it can't focus worth a darn. I'm discovering little niggling problems that I never even knew could pop up - and that says volumes about the quality of the QV3000EX.
My experience with later Casio cameras hasn't been so rosey, but Casio should be proud to have made such a fine camera, and any buyer should be proud to own one.

The QV-3000Plus employs an advanced 3.34 megapixel CCD that captures every nuance of the subject you are trying to record. The QV-3000Plus also features primary color filters to create 2048 x 1536-pixel images of very high-definition and natural looking color, and a new F2.0 Canon 3X optical zoom, wide-aperture lens. All of this gives the QV-3000Plus the means to record images of subjects that are too difficult for existing digital cameras with amazing definition and clarity.The QV-3000Plus comes bundled with software that automates exchange of images with a personal computer and supports use of an IBM microdrive, which means that image management and transfers are quicker and easier than ever before. Other features include a Night Mode that uses a CASIO original noise reduction system, a choice between shutter speed priority and aperture priority, a Continuous Mode that records up to three images at intervals of 0.5 second, and much more. Take advantage of the latest disk drive technology by adding the IBM 340MB Microdrive to your Casio Digital Camera. This new microdrive weighs less than a AA battery and can hold 200 times more data or images than a floppy disk. The microdrive's very small size and high performance make it ideally suited for applications needing portability and having high data/image requirements.The Casio QV-3000 Plus digital camera is a 3.34-megapixel camera that offers still photos at 2,048 x 1,536 maximum resolution as well as 320 x 240 pixel movie-mode capabilities. It provides a 3x optical and 2x digital zoom lens, a 1.8-inch HAST LCD screen, and a cursor pad for user-friendly menu selection. Other features include auto or manual focus, autoexposure, auto white balance, a built-in quartz digital clock, an automatic four-mode flash with red-eye reduction, and nine special shooting modes.
While all these features are fairly standard with similar high-end megapixel cameras from other manufacturers, what sets the Casio QV-3000 Plus apart from its peers is its memory storage capabilities. This camera offers CompactFlash card capability much like other digital imaging devices, but also supports IBM's Microdrive--the most powerful method of storing digital images to date. The Microdrive, which is included with the camera, offers an incredible 340 MB of memory. Users can snap up to 400 high-quality images or 19 minutes of 7-frame-per-second video without having to switch memory cards or download. One IBM Microdrive could replace over 11 rolls of film. This storage capacity makes it easy to use the QV-3000 Plus in situations where you'll be away from your computer for an extended time (such as while you're on vacation).
The Casio QV-3000 Plus is USB compatible (although you don't need a USB port to use it) and works with both PC and Macintosh platforms. It operates on either four AA batteries or on an optional AC adapter. Along with the Casio QV-3000 Plus, you receive a USB cable, a serial cable, a Macintosh serial adapter cable, a software bundle, a 340 MB IBM Microdrive, a video cable, a soft carrying case, and a strap. The included software bundle enables you to instantly upload your photos to the Internet, to convert files into e-mail form, and to edit your photos with ease.
